Midlands Region Vice Chair, Kate Whatley of SPV held an Institute of Roofing Midlands Regional Meeting on the 26th November 2019 at Drednought Tiles in Dudley.
Due to the format of the meeting, numbers were limited but we were please to host 18 attendees, many of whom were local to the venue and were intrigued to learn more about the company.
The meeting began with an overview of the day. Due to health reasons, Regional Chair, Howard Evans was unable to attend the meeting and Kate passed on his apologies. Due to traffic conditions that morning and an overturned lorry on the M6, IoR CEO Stuart unfortunately had to send his apologies however Kate Whatley updated attendees about his new appointment and the ambitious plans for growth he has for the organisation as well as the long term goal to become a chartered organisation. The IoR believes chartered accreditation will give members professional standing similar to that of architects, accountants and engineers, for example.
To help achieve these long-term plans, the Institute has unveiled a significant overhaul of its training and marketing and Stuart believes Chartered status could be achieved by the body’s 50th anniversary. Paul Harper of Midlands Roof Training Group sent his apologies that he couldn’t attend due to a prior commitment but Kate updated members about the funding he currently has for members and also a number of new courses he is looking to run including a construction ambassador course and a lead welding and bossing course.
Alex Patrick Smith then gave a CPD presentation on the subject of Plain Clay Roof Tiles, Design and Aesthetic Consideration the seminar was very interesting and informative and offered attendees better understanding of the issues relating to the specification of plain clay tiles and broadened their understanding of the Dreadnought product range.
The was followed by a fascinating tour of the Dreadnought factory and the opportunity to gain an exclusive insight into the manufacturing processes and procedures.
This was followed by a buffet lunch and time for networking.
Attendee Mark Sulik of Academy Consultancy and Design commented;
Attending the regional meeting today and the excellent venue and time from Alex and Alastair , has to be applauded as one of the most interesting and informative events I have been to. I will be writing to Dreadnought separately with my Thanks and comments. Thank you for your efforts and commitment to the IoR as your events are always so well organised and attended.
Peter Baker of Brindley Asphalt also agreed that it was a tremendously enlightening and informative morning and one he very much enjoyed.
Thank to everyone to who time out to attend and to Dreadnought tiles who were fantastic hosts for the day.
